The National Environmental Guard discovered serious irregularities in the management of hazardous waste and wastewater in the municipality of Slobozia, following inspections carried out between March and May 2026. The authorities reported the criminal bodies after the discharge of nearly 93,000 cubic meters of wastewater into the Ialomița River.
These inspections were triggered by citizens' complaints regarding unpleasant odors in certain areas. The commissioners found that SC CLEAN CYCLO SRL was discharging untreated waste into the treatment plant, having issues with waste storage and traceability.
The Guard imposed fines of approximately one million lei and ordered measures for the removal of hazardous waste.
At the SC URBAN SA treatment plant, legal limit exceedances were found, and the measures imposed led to the disappearance of the reported odors. The Guard continues to monitor the operators and legal actions to prevent pollution.
