Details about the elevator that fell freely at the Ministry of Transport: The elevator cables had been changed a day before.

Representatives of the CFR Palace announced on Thursday that major maintenance work was carried out a day before on the elevator that fell at the Ministry of Transport, including the replacement of traction cables. Although the installation had all technical checks up to date and the operating authorization from ISCIR, the incident prompted management to stop all elevators in the building for additional checks.

The administrator of the CFR Palace, Vlad Secăreanu, urgently convened the maintenance team to provide explanations about the work carried out.

Five people needed medical care

The Capital Police announced that they were notified on Thursday, around 10:22 AM, regarding the fact that an elevator had fallen in the premises of an institution in Sector 1. According to ISU Bucharest-Ilfov, there were 7 people in the elevator, and the level from which it fell is not known. Of the 7 victims (2 men and 5 women), 5 required medical care. A 38-year-old man was transported to the Central Military Hospital with a fracture in his right leg. A 42-year-old woman was taken to the University Hospital, also with a fracture in her right leg. Another woman, 46 years old, was transported to the Central Military Hospital with pain in the left lower limb. A 53-year-old woman is experiencing pain in her legs, and a 33-year-old woman is experiencing pain in her right ankle.

Investigators are looking into whether the recent work had any connection to the accident and whether safety procedures were followed. The safety of employees and visitors remains a priority, and the director warned that legal measures will be taken in case of errors.
