The University of Bucharest has reinstalled the eagle and the two griffins destroyed in 1944 on the University Palace, marking the beginning of the restoration of the original pediment.

The University of Bucharest announced the reinstallation of the eagle and the two griffins, destroyed during the bombings of 1944, on the University Palace, completed by the construction team of Erbașu on August 8.

This event represents the first step in the complete restoration of the original pediment, a project that will take place over the next two years. The sculptural ensemble, made of bronze, weighs 1.6 tons and was created by sculptor Alexandru Siminic, based on the original works of sculptor Karl Storck. The project, valued at approximately 2 million lei, aims to restore the facades and historical elements of the building, structural reinforcement, and the arrangement of a museum space.

The works are financed through the National Program for Public or Social Interest Construction, under the authority of the Ministry of Development. The University Palace, the largest educational building in Romania, will benefit from a modernization that will integrate modern architectural lighting solutions, ensuring the preservation of historical heritage for the future.
