Deputy Prime Minister Tanczos Barna stated that the Guarantee-Return System (SGR) should not be expanded at present, but rather allowed to stabilize and function efficiently for several years. He emphasized that the SGR should not become a source of profit for participants and that it is essential to learn from the positive and negative experiences of this system. Barna highlighted the positive impact of the SGR on the environment and the education of the population in waste management.
On the other hand, PNL deputy Mircea Fechet announced a legislative initiative to extend the SGR to glass packaging, cans, and coffee, as well as to reusable jars, with the aim of improving waste collection. Fechet mentioned that the SGR has a collection rate of over 90%, comparable to the best systems in the European Union, and that the expansion is justified. He emphasized that his initiative will contribute to a cleaner environment in Romania.
