CFR Călători explained that the 373-minute delay of train IR 1658 on the Vatra Dornei – Bucharest route, on the night of January 19 to 20, 2026, was mainly caused by the failure of the hauling locomotives.

The company mentioned that extreme weather conditions, with very low temperatures, hindered the technical processes of replacing the locomotive and attaching the helper one. Also, after changing the locomotives, the delay increased due to the need to integrate the train into the updated traffic schedule of CFR SA. CFR Călători emphasized that the speed restrictions on the route, caused by issues with the railway infrastructure, also influenced the duration of the journey. The company apologizes to passengers for the inconveniences encountered and thanks them for their understanding.
