Mihai Bizu was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison for attempted murder and sexual abuse of his ex-wife, but was quickly released after three days thanks to an appeal for annulment. This rarely-used appeal was upheld by the Bucharest Court of Appeal, and his former lawyer is current justice minister Radu Marinescu, who pleaded for the crime to be reclassified. The next trial is set for September 26, 2025.
