The Romanian Orthodox Church has announced the canonization of 16 Romanian women with holy lives, an event that will be marked by services at the Patriarchal Cathedral in Bucharest. The ceremonies will begin on February 5 with a memorial service, followed on February 6 by a procession with the relics of the saints and the Holy Liturgy, officiated by Patriarch Daniel. The 16 saints include figures such as Maria Brâncoveanu, the wife of the martyr voivode Constantin Brâncoveanu, and various nuns and confessors from the history of Romania. Each saint will have a specific date of veneration, and the canonization was approved by the Holy Synod in July 2025. These women had a significant impact on Romanian spirituality and culture.
