The border police in Giurgiu conducted a check on DN 5, where they stopped a freight vehicle registered in Romania, driven by a 44-year-old Romanian citizen, who was traveling on the Bulgaria-Romania route. The checks revealed that in the cargo compartment of the trailer, packages of cigarettes without documents of origin were hidden using the "cap" method.

In total, 7,199,780 cigarettes were found, equivalent to 359,989 packs, estimated at a value of approximately 10,800,000 lei (over 2,000,000 euros). The entire quantity of cigarettes and the freight vehicle were confiscated, and the police continue investigations for the crime of "keeping goods outside the tax warehouse," under the supervision of the case prosecutor. The driver was detained for 24 hours and will be presented to the court with a proposal for preventive arrest for 30 days.
