Border police in Giurgiu, together with customs workers, confiscated 1,500,000 cigarettes illegally introduced into Romania by a Serbian citizen. The incident occurred on November 28, 2025, when the truck, registered in Hungary and driven by a 44-year-old man, was stopped for inspection on DN 56.
Although the vehicle's documents indicated the transport of motor oil, checks revealed the presence of 75,000 packs of cigarettes without documents of origin. The total value of the cigarettes is estimated at 2,250,000 lei. The driver was placed in preventive custody for 30 days and is being investigated for smuggling, while the entire quantity of cigarettes and the truck were confiscated for further investigations.
