The National Bank of Romania (BNR) has issued a statement emphasizing that it does not make recommendations or investment proposals and that all official communications are published exclusively on its own channels. Recently, online deepfake posts have emerged involving Governor Mugur Isărescu, cloning the website and social media page of a well-known newspaper.
These materials falsify an interview with the governor, promoting a fraudulent site as a platform for automated trading. BNR reiterates that the use of deepfakes, which create the appearance that a person has said or done things without their consent, is illegal. The institution advises the public not to interact with such materials and not to provide personal data, immediately reporting any suspicious situations to the competent authorities.
