The Basarab Passage, opened in 2011 and the largest infrastructure investment in Bucharest in the last 35 years, is facing advanced degradation and urgently needs maintenance. Administrative sources have stated that the structure has not been officially received even after 14 years, which raises safety concerns. Experts emphasize the need to check the hangers, joint devices, and support devices, as well as to remedy the cracks discovered in the concrete blocks. The Capital City Hall has acknowledged that the passage is in a delicate situation, without official reception, which has allowed its degradation.
Additionally, the passage presents a lamentable appearance, with damaged railings and the absence of rainwater drains. The final reception could only take place in 2026, after safety works, considering that the warranty period expired in 2022.
