Sorin Ban, a mathematics teacher and former principal of the gymnasium in Sântandrei, has been sent to trial by prosecutors in Oradea for abusive behavior after he hit a sixth-grade student, causing a head injury. The incident occurred in November 2024, when the teacher, annoyed by a gesture from the student who pressed the school bell, hit him several times, and the boy hit his forehead against the wall, suffering an injury.

The incident was captured by surveillance cameras, and the student's parents filed a complaint with the police, leading to an internal investigation at the school. Although the teacher is accused of abuse, some colleagues and parents of other students defend him, considering him innocent and asking for his forgiveness. The scandal escalated, requiring police intervention. Ban refused to comment on the incident and has sued the School Inspectorate for not granting him the merit grade.
