The major retail chains in Romania, through the Association of Major Commercial Networks in Romania (AMRCR), have announced voluntary measures to reduce energy consumption during the national state of alert.

Among these measures are limiting the use of air conditioning and turning off advertising lighting at night. Retailers are adopting LED lighting and adjustable intensity lighting systems, adapted to natural light, to optimize electricity consumption. Other technical measures include installing temperature sensors for air conditioning, mounting doors on refrigerated display cases, and using presence sensors in administrative areas.

Additionally, some stores generate energy through photovoltaic panels. Interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan discussed with energy suppliers solutions to cope with the energy crisis caused by drought and heatwaves, urging companies and the population to save energy.
