Steve Cropper, an emblematic name in soul music and guitarist of the band Booker T. & the MG's, passed away at the age of 84, according to an announcement made by Pat Mitchell Worley, president of the Soulsville Foundation. Cropper died Wednesday in Nashville, and the cause of death has not been disclosed. His friend, Eddie Gore, mentioned that he recently visited Cropper at a rehabilitation center, where they were working together on new songs. Cropper was a central figure in the Memphis music scene and is known for his contributions to the hit "Soul Man" by Sam & Dave. In 2020, Cropper discussed his musical style, emphasizing the importance of collaboration with other musicians. Cropper was also inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2005, being recognized for his impact on music. His band, Booker T. & the MG's, was notable for its racial diversity, a rare aspect at that time.
