Celebrated American jazz singer Cassandra Wilson, a Grammy Award winner, died on Wednesday at the age of 70 in her hometown of Jackson, Mississippi (southern United States), her agent announced. The singer received two Grammy Awards during her career, which spanned approximately thirty years and during which she collaborated, among others, with Steve Coleman and Wynton Marsalis.


The cause of death was not made public, and the agent requested that the family's privacy be respected.
