Steve Ellis, lead singer of the British band Love Affair and performer of the hit “Everlasting Love,” died at the age of 76 on the evening of October 30, 2026, after complications associated with a chronic illness. The artist died in the presence of his loved ones, according to a message posted on his official Facebook account.
The news was also confirmed by musicians who knew him. Paul Weller paid tribute to him, while blues artist Norman Beaker described him as a legend of the mod movement and an exceptional vocalist.
Steve Ellis began his career at the age of 15, when he founded the band Soul Survivors. The group later became Love Affair, a band formed in 1966. In 1967, the band topped the UK singles chart with its version of “Everlasting Love,” originally composed and recorded by Robert Knight.
The song remained one of the group’s best-known performances and was later featured in films such as “Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason” and “Belfast.” Other acclaimed songs by the band include “A Day Without Love,” “Rainbow Valley” and “Bringing On Back The Good Times.”
Ellis left Love Affair in 1969 to pursue a solo career and later performed with bands such as Widowmaker and Ellis.
