Lionel Richie, hospitalized for heart surgery. The artist canceled his next three concerts

Seventy-six-year-old Lionel Richie will not perform at the next three concerts on his tour with Earth, Wind & Fire after undergoing a procedure for atrial fibrillation. The American singer remains hospitalized, but his representatives say the procedure went very well and that the artist is feeling fine.

The canceled concerts are those in San Francisco, scheduled for Saturday, Chicago, on September 30, and Columbus, Ohio, on October 2. The Las Vegas shows, scheduled at Encore Theater starting October 14, remain on the calendar for now.

Atrial fibrillation is a heart rhythm disorder characterized by irregular and often rapid heartbeats. This is not the artist’s first medical episode during the tour. On June 24, in Minneapolis, Richie left the stage after complaining of dizziness, returning to performing on June 30. On August 29, after a show in St. Louis, he went to the hospital as a precaution for cardiac tests and was discharged on September 2.

Lionel Richie is known for hits such as “All Night Long,” “Endless Love,” and “Say You Say Me.” A former member of the Commodores, the artist has sold more than 100 million albums and won four Grammy Awards.
