At the national phase of the National School Sports Olympiad (ONSS) in Botoșani, a 17-year-old student from Teleorman collapsed after approximately 200 meters from the start of the cross-country event. Medical teams intervened quickly, transporting her to the hospital for investigations. Doctors diagnosed her with renal colic, but tests revealed the presence of cannabis in her system.

The girl stated that she had consumed the substance three days before the competition. Dr. Ramona Guraliuc confirmed the diagnosis and mentioned that the student was hemodynamically stable and was treated accordingly. The authorities were notified, with the Botoșani County Police Inspectorate being informed about the incident, and the Botoșani County School Inspectorate sent a notification to their colleagues in Teleorman to take the necessary measures. Bogdan Suruciuc, the general school inspector in Botoșani, stated that the competent authorities have been informed to manage the situation.
