Two heavy trucks collide head-on in Tunari / Garbage truck driver seriously injured

Two heavy trucks collided head-on on Monday morning on Calea București in Tunari, Ilfov County. The driver of the garbage truck was seriously injured and rushed to hospital after suffering fractures to both legs. The man is alive.

According to witnesses quoted by Mediafax, one of the trucks allegedly crossed into oncoming traffic and hit the garbage truck head-on. Police are expected to establish exactly how the accident occurred, so the wrong-way-driving theory has not been officially confirmed for now.

Images posted in the Facebook group “Info Trafic București și Ilfov” show the garbage truck’s cab completely destroyed. The driver’s door was torn off, the windshield is missing, and the two vehicles remained blocking the road, scattering bodywork fragments and items from the cab across the asphalt.

The sanitation workers were not in the cab at the time of the impact because they had gotten out to collect waste from the gates. Traffic in the area is being diverted onto secondary streets, while removing the trucks requires special equipment. Calea București remains affected until the intervention and investigation are completed.
