The senators adopted Law 213/30.03.2026, which allows teachers to prohibit students from using mobile phones in pre-university educational institutions.

This law complements the Pre-university Education Law No. 198/2023. According to the amendments made to Article 106, the administration council of the educational institution can decide to ban the use of mobile phones on school premises or during external activities.

Additionally, educational institutions must introduce these rules in their internal regulations and set up special places for storing devices. The law details the procedure for the temporary confiscation of phones, including methods of record-keeping and storage conditions.

The new regulations will come into force 30 days after publication in the Official Gazette of Romania.
