On the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, border police from the Calafat Border Police Sector discovered a massive shipment of suspected counterfeit perfumes. The control took place on DN 56, in the parking lot next to the toll station of the Calafat-Vidin bridge, where a truck registered in Bulgaria, driven by a Bulgarian citizen, was transporting various goods on the Bulgaria-Italy route. Following the checks, 19 pallets containing 32,220 bottles of perfume inscribed with the names of well-known brands, but imitating original brands, were found.
The driver could not present documents of origin for the goods or the agreement of the brand holders for the sale of the products. All perfumes were confiscated, and the estimated value of the goods would have been nearly 13 million lei if they had been sold as original products. The police opened a criminal case for the circulation of counterfeit products, thus harming the rights holders and misleading consumers. The Giurgiu Territorial Inspectorate of Border Police continues actions to prevent and combat illegalities and protect intellectual property rights.
