Ten searches conducted by police officers and prosecutors in an embezzlement case involving damages exceeding 28 million lei

Police officers and prosecutors conducted ten searches on Thursday, September 24, 2026, in Bucharest, Oradea, Valea lui Mihai, and the communes of Curtuișeni and Borș, in an embezzlement case with particularly serious consequences. The damages are estimated at more than 28 million lei.

Investigators suspect that the 55-year-old president of an association in Curtuișeni allegedly transferred, with the support of five other people, part of the donations intended for medical treatments to several commercial companies. Judicial sources said that the Association for Little Noel is being targeted.

According to the investigation, contracts for IT maintenance, advertising, marketing, and photocopying services were allegedly concluded between 2020 and 2026. The invoices issued allegedly concerned nonexistent or overvalued services, and the money was allegedly removed from the association’s assets.

Following the searches, accounting documents, invoices, contracts, and four mobile phones were seized. The association, established in 2019, says it has supported treatments for more than 200 children. The evidence will be analyzed as part of the investigation.
