DIICOT prosecutors and police are conducting 14 searches in Iași in a case involving child trafficking and drug trafficking and possession

DIICOT prosecutors and officers from the Iași Brigade for Combating Organized Crime conducted 14 searches in Iași County on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, in a case involving child trafficking and the trafficking and possession of high-risk and low-risk drugs. The searches target the homes of several individuals as well as the premises of a child reception center.

According to investigators, during 2026, a 14-year-old institutionalized girl was allegedly recruited and transported, with the assistance of other underage girls from the same center, to the village of Verșeni and nearby areas. There, the victim was allegedly forced to engage in sexual relations for money.

The investigation indicates that other girls from the center may also have been recruited for the same purpose. Prosecutors claim that cannabis and crystalline substances were allegedly brought into the institution and subsequently distributed to institutionalized minors for personal use.

Following the searches, the individuals concerned are to be questioned at the DIICOT Iași headquarters. Investigations are continuing to establish all the facts and the responsibility of each person involved.
