In the locality of Berchișești, Suceava County, police and gendarmes, under the coordination of a prosecutor, are conducting searches on Thursday at an animal shelter accused of having killed hundreds of dogs in the past year. The shelter, managed by the mayor's son, is suspected of illegal killings, while the mayor's office has denied the accusations, stating that the administrator is engaged in dedicated work for the rescue of animals.
The investigation began after inspections carried out by the Animal Protection Office, which revealed serious violations at several shelters, including the one in Berchișești, where the entry and exit documents of the animals do not match. Judicial sources suggest that the animals may have been killed without legal reasons to avoid overcrowding.
Additionally, a message posted on social media compares the shelter to "the Auschwitz of dogs" and calls for a transparent investigation. The mayor's office emphasized that the shelter collaborates with an association and that the activity is conducted properly, rejecting negative rumors.
