Prior to the summoning of the Russian ambassador, the Romanian Intelligence Service and DIICOT announced the dismantling of a sabotage network coordinated from Russia, linked to the incident at the Carfil industrial platform. According to the authorities, three foreign citizens (two Belarusians and one Ukrainian) were allegedly involved in this case, and the investigations were followed by further checks carried out by Romanian institutions. President Nicușor Dan publicly condemned Russia’s involvement, describing the attacks as part of a broader hybrid warfare campaign and saying that the Romanian state would act to prevent similar incidents.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Luca Niculescu stated that Romania would act with “utmost firmness” to prevent and dismantle acts of sabotage targeting strategic facilities and congratulated the institutions involved in the operation. AUR called for explanations and an urgent assessment of strategic industrial and military facilities, as well as measures to verify security and access control. Russia, through its Embassy in Bucharest, disputed the accusations and spoke of “speculation,” amid the preventive detention and investigation of a Russian citizen for activities suspected of preparing acts of diversion.
