Romanian drivers will be stopped in traffic starting Wednesday, September 30, 2026, for Origin-Destination traffic surveys conducted by CNAIR on motorways, expressways and national roads in Romania. The study aims to measure traffic flows and provide a basis for future investments in road infrastructure.
The action is being carried out by CNAIR through the Center for Road Technical Studies and Informatics, at locations established using statistical methods. Stops will take place between 08:00–12:00 and 14:00–18:00, according to the announced schedule: September 30, October 7, October 21, October 28 and November 4.
Police officers will direct vehicles to a reserve lane, a parking area or a reinforced shoulder, where surveyors will ask standardized questions. These concern the origin and destination of the journey, the purpose of the trip and, where applicable, the type of goods transported or the number of passengers.
The data collected will be used to update the National Transport Models, prepare feasibility studies and analyze demand for passenger and freight transport. CNAIR states that the information is anonymous: license plate numbers, drivers’ identities or other personal data will not be recorded. The company asks drivers for their cooperation so that stops are as brief as possible and traffic is not disrupted.
