The Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Oana Ţoiu, had a phone conversation with her Spanish counterpart, José Manuel Albares, to thank Spain for its support for the security of Romania, after a Spanish F-18 aircraft intercepted and shot down a drone that had entered Romanian airspace.
The incident occurred on the night from Saturday to Sunday, when the drone was detected 24 kilometers north of Galaţi and destroyed around 05:01. Ţoiu emphasized that this is the fourth mission of the Spanish Air Forces in Romania, describing Spain as a reliable ally.
In recent weeks, Romania has experienced several incidents with intruding drones, and the minister highlighted the increase in drone attacks near the borders. Ţoiu reaffirmed the military cooperation between Romania and Spain, emphasizing the importance of the Strategic Partnership between the two countries, which has lasted for 13 years, and the joint commitment to the security of allied airspace.
