In Paris, the Romanian Foreign Minister, Oana Ţoiu, emphasized the need to strengthen Romania's air defense following the incident in Galaţi, where a Russian drone injured two people. Although there is no evidence that Russia intentionally targeted the apartment block, Ţoiu stated that Moscow bears responsibility.

Romania, having the longest border with the conflict zone in Ukraine, must improve its air surveillance and defense capabilities, especially on NATO's eastern flank. While the delivery of military equipment will be delayed, Romania is collaborating with NATO and Ukraine to develop a joint defense project against drones.

The incident in Galaţi is the first with casualties, but Romania has recorded over 40 incursions of Russian drones since the beginning of the war in Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that there is no clear evidence regarding the origin of the drone, while Romanian authorities confirmed that the drone involved was of the Geran-2 type.
