The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Oana Ţoiu, confirmed that a Romanian Air Force F-16 shot down a drone that illegally entered Romanian airspace, the incident occurring Saturday morning, 10 kilometers west of Sfântu Gheorghe, in the Danube Delta.

This is the second time in two days that a Romanian pilot has neutralized an intruding drone, following a similar incident in Buzău County. Oana Ţoiu emphasized that preliminary information confirms that the drone shot down on Friday was of the Shahed type, used by Russia in attacks against Ukraine.

The minister highlighted that the two incidents are not isolated events, but a pattern, and reaffirmed Romania's commitment to protect its airspace. Oana Ţoiu thanked the Romanian pilots and military for their interventions and assured that Romania will continue to defend its territory, sharing the conclusions of the investigations with allies in the European Union.
