Romania reported a negative natural increase of 10,184 people, with 11,893 births and 22,077 deaths in December 2025. According to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INS), although births increased by 7.3% compared to the previous month (November), compared to December 2024, they decreased by 3.4%. The number of deaths increased significantly, with 3,488 more than in November, the majority being among the elderly. Almost 42% of deaths were among those aged 80 and over. Additionally, deaths were more frequent in rural areas (11,156) than in urban areas (10,921). In December 2025, there were 3,915 marriages and 1,981 divorces recorded. INS mentioned that the data is provisional and may be subject to changes.
