Petrișor Peiu, the leader of the AUR senators, signals an alarming increase in the need for state loans, from 232 billion lei to 259 billion lei for 2025, due to the increase in the budget deficit. So far, the government has contracted 213 billion lei and expects to borrow another 46 billion by the end of the year. High interest rates, of up to 7.45%, could double Romania's public debt in the next 10 years, warns the senator.
