Romania will launch a recruitment program for 1,000 young people aged between 18 and 35, announced by the Minister of Defense, Radu Miruță. He stated that the program will be implemented at the beginning of 2026, after the law is promulgated. The young people who enroll will undergo four months of training and will receive the equivalent of three average salaries in the economy, which is 27,000 lei. After completing the internship, they will have the option to remain as paid military personnel, continue military training, or become volunteer reservists. Miruță emphasized that details regarding enrollment and destination units will be established soon, and the program could become operational earlier, depending on the interest of young people and the budget. He also mentioned that the legal status of the new volunteers in the event of armed conflict is not completely clarified, but the applicability of the operational reservists regime will be verified. The minister stressed that the rules change radically in the event of war, highlighting the importance of respecting the laws in extreme situations.
