The Minister of Defense, Radu Miruță, is increasing the number of soldiers at the border with Ukraine, in Dobrogea, after the number of attacks in the Danube area reached 70, and in at least 14 situations, Russian drones entered Romania's airspace. At the same time, the Ministry of National Defense admitted that it is not capable of detecting all drones that penetrate the airspace.

Soldiers, radars, and GEPARD systems in Dobrogea

In recent months, Romania has recorded 70 attacks in the Danube area and 14 entries of Russian drones into national airspace. The Ministry of National Defense has mobilized troops and modern military technology at the border with Ukraine, and Minister Radu Miruță emphasized that, although risks cannot be completely eliminated, they are considered low. The Romanian Army is also increasing its air defense capabilities, including by introducing GEPARD systems, capable of intercepting drones. Recently, a Russian drone crashed into a yard in Vrancea without being detected by radars, highlighting the limitations in the detection capacity of some small-sized drones. Additionally, the American MEROPS system has been operationalized to improve the detection and interception of drones. The minister acknowledged that some drones are not visible on radar due to the materials they are made of and the terrain's relief.
