Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan stated that Romania has received an important signal from the European Commission, which decided not to propose the suspension of European funds, thus confirming the effectiveness of the fiscal measures adopted by the Government. The European Commissioner for Economy, Valdis Dombrovskis, emphasized that Romania's economic situation has improved, and the budget deficit is estimated to decrease from 8.4% of GDP in 2025 to 6% in 2026.
Bolojan mentioned that the Excessive Deficit Procedure remains suspended, which means that Romania will not be sanctioned. The Prime Minister stressed the importance of continuing fiscal reforms and keeping expenditures under control, emphasizing that Romania is regaining credibility on the European stage. The Ministry of Finance confirmed the European Commission's appreciation for the fiscal consolidation measures, and Romania's progress will be reviewed at the ECOFIN Council in December 2025.
