Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan announced on Wednesday, April 8, that Romania will begin negotiations with Pfizer for the purchase of COVID vaccines, after losing the case in the first instance.
The Minister of Health and the Minister of Finance will travel to the USA next week to discuss with representatives of the company. Bolojan emphasized the importance of finding a solution to avoid penalties for delays during the negotiation period, mentioning that they will collaborate with a law firm and with Poland, which is in a similar situation. Additionally, Romania will seek support from the European Commission (EC) to facilitate these negotiations. The Prime Minister mentioned that they are looking for ways to pay the owed amount in an installment form or to convert the debt into deliverables necessary for the healthcare system. After the discussions in the USA, the ministers will communicate the results and the next steps, depending on the evolution of the negotiations.
