Romania could receive the funds related to PNRR payment request No. 5 in November, after more than €1.4 billion in grants received a favorable assessment from the European Commission, interim Minister of Investments and European Projects Dragoș Pîslaru announced Friday.
Payment request No. 5 is worth a total of €2.084 billion, of which €1.651 billion represents grants. For the remaining amount, the Romanian authorities are continuing to submit supporting documents and information. The amounts deemed eligible have not yet been paid, and the transfer of the funds depends on the completion of European procedures.
The situation is more difficult in the case of payment request No. 6, worth €4.347 billion. Approximately €900 million in grants are at risk because of the partial fulfillment of milestones concerning public-sector pay and decarbonization.
According to the estimated timetable, the assessment of request No. 6 is expected to be completed around November 6, while the final decision could be adopted on November 20, with a possible payment in December. Romania still has more than €6.4 billion to receive through the final two PNRR requests.
