Romania received over 301 million euros from the NRRP on Friday, October 9, funds related to payment request number 3, which had been suspended by the European Commission. Interim Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare announced that the payment was made following institutional efforts and dialogue with European officials to fulfill the commitments undertaken by our country.
The largest part of the amount, namely 298.6 million euros, represents non-reimbursable grants. Approximately 2.6 million euros are loans. According to the minister, the money directly contributes to financing the budget deficit and managing the State Treasury’s liquidity, reducing pressure on national budgetary resources.
Following this payment, Romania has received approximately 13.27 billion euros through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
Alexandru Nazare emphasized that the success of the NRRP should not be assessed solely by the value of the sums attracted, but also by the concrete effects of the reforms on public administration, the economy, and public finances. He pointed out that the reforms must be effectively implemented, not merely formally fulfilled, especially those that influence the state’s permanent expenditures and the competitiveness of the economy.
Assessing the results is considered important for preparing the 2027 budget, determining financing needs, prioritizing investments, and identifying the obligations that will fall on the national budget. The minister supports continuing fiscal consolidation, while also maintaining investments that can support economic development.
