In a meeting with EU Energy Commissioner Dan Jorgensen, Minister Sebastian Burduja reaffirmed that the closure of the 1,755 MW of coal-fired capacity, scheduled for 2026, is not feasible without alternative solutions. He emphasized the importance of energy security and highlighted that Romania has reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 77%. Burduja called for the renegotiation of the PNRR, noting that the closure of thermal power plants would lead to greater dependence on costly imports, emphasizing the need for new production capacity.
