Romania and the Republic of Moldova signed, at the Victoria Palace in Bucharest, an agreement for the joint acquisition of defense equipment through the European SAFE program. The project provides for the purchase of 2,971 multifunctional wheeled transport platforms, manufactured at the IDV (Iveco Defence Vehicles) factory in Dâmbovița County. Of these, 62 units will be added to the equipment of the National Army of the Republic of Moldova.
The document was signed by Defense Ministers Anatolie Nosatîi and Radu Oprea, in the presence of Romanian Prime Minister Luca Niculescu. The agreement seeks to replace Soviet-produced vehicles in the Moldovan army, increase interoperability between the two forces, and strengthen Romania's defense industry.
Officials described the agreement as a concrete project of cooperation between the two states, in a regional context marked by the war in Ukraine and repeated violations of airspace by drones. Romania and the Republic of Moldova also intend to develop joint programs for counter-drone defense.
The project is the first European acquisition of this type coordinated by Romania and benefits from funding through the SAFE program, intended to strengthen defense capabilities and Europe's industrial and technological base.
