This law represents a significant step in aligning Romania with the standards of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and in achieving the strategic objective of joining the OECD. The new legislation provides for higher fines for individuals, with a daily fine value ranging from 500 to 10,000 lei, and allows for the confiscation of assets obtained from acts of corruption. Additionally, the bribery of foreign public officials will be penalized, even if they misuse their position. Nicușor Dan emphasized that Romania's accession to the OECD, estimated for 2026, will attract foreign investments and increase confidence in the national economy.
