The Ministry of National Defense announced the signing of an intergovernmental contract for the acquisition of light corvettes of the HISAR class from the Government of Turkey. The contract was signed by Brigadier General Ion-Cornel Pleșa and the CEO of ASFAT, Mustafa İlbaş, in the presence of interim minister Radu Miruță. The acquisition, valued at 223 million EURO excluding VAT, includes the cost of the vessel, personnel training, and logistical support.
The Supreme Council of National Defense approved the program for equipping the Romanian Naval Forces with this vessel, with a favorable opinion given by the joint defense committees of Parliament. The HISAR corvette will contribute to the protection of critical maritime infrastructure and to patrol and combat missions, thus strengthening the national security of Romania.
