The “Rear Admiral August Roman” corvette – 261 conducted its first live-fire exercises with its onboard artillery systems on Tuesday, October 6, since entering service with the Romanian Naval Forces. The training took place at sea, in the Black Sea, to assess the ship and its crew before full operationalization.
The military personnel took part in search-and-rescue exercises at sea, repelling enemy aircraft, combating surface vessels, and neutralizing navigational hazards. The training also simulated operations to neutralize aerial and maritime drones. The ship’s inspection team also conducted live-fire exercises with individual weapons.
The assessment was carried out by a team from the Romanian Naval Forces’ Training, Simulation, Evaluation and Wargaming Center. The corvette is in the final stages of the operationalization process and is set to contribute to ensuring freedom of navigation and strengthening the naval presence in the Black Sea.
The ship has a crew of 85 military personnel and is commanded by Commander Sorin Huruială. Entering service with the Romanian Naval Forces on June 20, 2026, the HISAR-class corvette can carry out surveillance, patrol, reconnaissance, search-and-rescue, surface warfare, antiaircraft and antisubmarine missions.
