Romania ranks among the European countries with the highest levels of employee engagement, having a percentage of 31%, according to the report "State of the Global Workplace 2026" conducted by Gallup.
This comes in a global context where employee motivation is declining, reaching a low of 20%, the lowest level since 2020. Europe continues to be the region with the lowest level of engagement for the sixth consecutive year, although European employees experience a lower level of stress compared to those in the United States and Canada. The decline in employee motivation can have a significant economic impact, with losses estimated at up to 9% of global GDP.
Regarding stress, employees in Southern Europe, such as those in Greece and Malta, face the highest levels, while Nordic countries like Denmark have the lowest. Additionally, young people under 35 and those without managerial positions are the least engaged, and the phenomenon of "quiet quitting" is becoming increasingly common. Despite the challenges, 49% of European employees believe they are thriving, and the Netherlands ranks first in terms of employee optimism.
