Brașov City Hall will launch pre-feasibility studies for a possible road tunnel through the Tâmpa massif, which would connect the city’s historic center with the Răcădău neighborhood. The project is being considered as a solution to improve traffic flow in the central area, but its implementation depends on the results of the technical and economic documentation.
The idea of building such a connection is not new, but the authorities now want to establish whether the project is feasible and under what conditions it could be implemented. The study will analyze possible routes, the optimal areas for locating the tunnel, and the estimated investment costs.
According to Brașov City Hall spokesperson Sorin Toarcea, the documentation will also assess whether the value of the works would be justified by the results achieved. The effects on traffic and the benefits of a direct connection between the historic center and the Răcădău neighborhood will also be analyzed.
After the study is completed, the municipality will be able to decide whether to include the project in its investment program and as a traffic solution for the central area. The new documents are necessary before any decision is made regarding the tunnel’s technical phases and construction.
