An investigation by Rise Project reveals that Romsilva has spent more than 1.2 billion lei in the last seven years on salary and retirement bonuses, including undue amounts of 216 million lei in 2021 and 2023. The policy of granting these bonuses has been criticized by Environment Minister Mircea Fechet, who has called for their elimination, citing a €100,000 bonus given to a former director who later re-employed in the institution. Many forestry directorates also made losses last year.
