The Economic and Social Council has given a favorable opinion for the Government Decision project aimed at reorganizing the National Forest Administration - Romsilva, initiated by the Ministry of Environment.
The Minister of Environment, Diana Buzoianu, announced that the number of regional directorates will be reduced from 41 to 19, and the directors will be selected through competitions, having 5-year mandates. This reform aims to eliminate directors who have held positions for 20-30 years without notable results and will introduce performance criteria for their annual evaluation. Trade unionists from the Federation of Silva Trade Unions opposed the reorganization, arguing that it will lead to layoffs and weaken the state's ability to manage forests. Buzoianu emphasized the importance of the reform to combat illegalities and illegal logging, but the process of adopting the Government Decision has been delayed.
