Irinel Scrioșteanu, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Transport, warned, after the intervention on the Danube in the Bala area, that the force of the river currents can affect the redirection of the additional flow towards Cernavodă.

He emphasized, in a message posted on Facebook, that the barges can be displaced, which could diminish or even nullify efforts to redirect water. According to him, interventions in the Bala area continue to prevent this scenario.

“At any moment, the barges can be displaced from their current position and the redirection of the additional flow towards Cernavodă can be diminished (or even nullified),” he wrote.

Scrioșteanu also mentioned that, due to the measures taken, the level of the Danube has risen by 8 centimeters, which has allowed the redirection of approximately 50 cubic meters of water per second towards Cernavodă, enabling the operation of reactor 2.

The Ministry of Energy announced on Sunday the first results of the operations to limit the decrease of the Danube's flow in the Cernavodă area. In the last 24 hours, the water level has risen by 4 centimeters, although the forecast indicates a similar decrease. Specialists estimate that the evolution allows the operation of Unit 2 for at least another nine days. The operation involved placing four barges in the area of the Bala branch, to redirect a portion of the flow towards the Old Danube.
