Radu Miruță, the Minister of Defense, acknowledged that his response about Nicolae Ceaușescu was not "the happiest expression," but he did not apologize for his statements. In a broadcast, he discussed the negative impact of Ceaușescu's regime on Romania, emphasizing that the dictator isolated the country and sent capable people to the canal.

Miruță explained that he wanted to dismantle the arguments of those who believe that Ceaușescu was a patriot, acknowledging that there is a societal debate on this subject. The Institute for the Investigation of Communist Crimes has asked the minister to publicly apologize, warning that such statements can legitimize the horrors of the communist regime. A recent survey shows that 66% of Romanians believe that Ceaușescu was a good leader, which has been labeled by sociologists as alarming and a consequence of disinformation. Miruță later returned with clarifications, explaining that he wanted to emphasize the arguments against the positive perception of Ceaușescu.
