The Minister of Justice, Radu Marinescu, considers the release of Sebastian Vlădescu and Ionuț Costea "an absolutely regrettable situation," after the court accepted their appeals, citing the statute of limitations.

Radu Marinescu, the Minister of Justice, commented on the release of former Minister of Finance, Sebastian Vlădescu, and former Eximbank president, Ionuț Costea, after the supreme court accepted their requests for appeal in cassation, invoking a decision of the Constitutional Court. Marinescu emphasized that it is an "absolutely regrettable situation" and explained that, prior to the CCR's decision, only the Public Ministry could request the cessation of the criminal process based on the statute of limitations. The Ministry of Justice has initiated a draft law to correct this legislative insufficiency, which is now in Parliament.

Marinescu mentioned that we must be responsible in applying the law and warned against the rapid adoption of normative acts that could lead to unconstitutionality. Regarding the recovery of damages in the case of the two, he stated that the Romanian state must act firmly to recover the damages, even if the court's decisions have been controversial. Vlădescu and Costea were previously convicted in the corruption case related to the works on the Bucharest-Constanța railway section, and now they have been released after the statute of limitations on criminal liability was established. However, the court maintained the civil measures for the confiscation of their assets.
