Before the announcement regarding the implementation of mechanisms related to legislation, Radu Marinescu had been nominated for a new term at the Ministry of Justice in the government led by Prime Minister Luca Niculescu. In his program, he spoke about 79 measures, including the establishment of the National Agency for Victim Protection, the reorganization of the institution, the use of artificial intelligence to speed up procedures, and reforms such as anti-corruption and rehabilitation strategies.
At the same time, Marinescu also became the focus of a university investigation into plagiarism allegations concerning his doctoral thesis. The investigation was opened at the University of Craiova on January 16, 2026, following complaints filed on January 13 and 14, and he stated in Parliament that the situation was „under investigation” and would be clarified „strictly from an academic perspective”.
